Just the disorganization of the party and how awful Pip, Cara, Conner, Zach, Lauren, Anthony, and Jamie were at playing their characters was both cute and hilarious. I think prequels written several years after book one (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder) are mainly read by those who've already read the big book, the main book. And this is really a good prequel to the start of the series as you get a sense of why Pippa chose to do her project on Andie Bell's murder case. Maybe reading the rest of the series and falling in love with the characters would be great before picking this one up. I mean, it would have fitted more if one of her friends also made a dramatic long ass deduction, but Pip is the only one that has like 3-5 pages of deduction.
Since this is all before there events of agggtm I love how we were able to see where Pippa's detective type personality came from and also what events caused her to do the final project that she did in agggtm. As part of the World Book Day books for 2021, Holly Jackson has written this lovely little prequel, which is a nice little snippet of Pippa before the release of the final book of the trilogy later this year. It was super fun to revisit the characters we know and love, and even Pip's poor dog gets a mention.
pip gave off introverted vibes which i usually don’t mind in a book, but in a group setting differs when u choose to be isolated.
Though Jackson said she was honored to contribute a book to World Book Day, the opportunity created a bit of a conundrum. With mature content, “Kill Joy” is intended for older readers and is a thrilling addition to the popular and award-winning A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series.
We join Pippa Fitz-Amobi a few months before the start of the first book in the series and she's not looking forward to going to her friend's 1920's themed murder mystery / roleplay game. Or maybe gotten them out of the library if per chance (low low chance since they so love their Dutch books) they had it. I have heard of the series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder before and when I saw this book on NetGalley and that it’s a prequel to the first in the series, I figured it would be a good place to start. There is a lot to really enjoy in this story and there is great energy to the writing, as well as some fine characterization' - Peter James, award-winning and no.
